Digital Insurance, Inc.

HISTORY

Founded in 2000 and headquartered in Atlanta, Digital Insurance was established to address the employee benefits needs of small businesses and mid-sized companies. With little buying power, these companies can’t access the same attractive rates and plans from carriers that large organizations typically receive. Traditional brokers usually focus their efforts on more substantial accounts. The goal was to leverage technology and scale to level the playing field for individual consumers via the employer health insurance marketplace.

While the original concept was to sell insurance online to employers, before long the strategy evolved. The new direction: to partner with other brokers, agents and financial services companies to manage or acquire their small group customer base. Digital quickly became the premier outsource solution in the country. Commissions were split with our partners, freeing them to concentrate on obtaining and servicing larger groups. It turned out to be a win-win scenario, and the business flourished. Digital’s growth was fueled by outstanding customer service and investments in innovative technology to create tremendous efficiencies. Both of these attributes remain pillars of the company’s strategic vision today.

Digital achieved critical mass and in short order became the nation’s leading employee benefits-only agency. Collectively, the volume of business from companies the firm represents captures the attention of insurance carriers. Digital continues to develop proprietary products and enhance their technology to drive efficiencies on behalf of their clients. During the better part of a decade, Digital invested tens of millions of dollars in a technology and operational infrastructure that has created a cost advantage in the benefits industry.

In 2011, the company organized into three divisions: Digital Benefit Advisors; Digital Enterprise, which serves small- and mid-sized businesses throughout the U.S.; and Small Business Select which efficiently manages thousands of micro-groups. Digital Benefit Advisors evolved through a series of acquisitions, involving a network of leading agencies from across the country.

2015 saw Digital’s first major set of acquisitions in adjacent business lines, but still squarely centered on the employee benefits and health insurance marketplace. Compass Consulting and PRM brought to Digital industry-leading platforms in the PEO and multi-employer risk management segments. Each company for the first time remained as separately held brands and diversified revenues stream under an overall Digital Insurance, Inc. parent company.

In 2016 Digital’s leadership recognized an opportunity to evolve and stake a new claim in the market created by digitalization, millennials coming of age and an increased industry focus on consumer-centric health offerings. As a result, the company consolidated into one entity, OneDigital Health and Benefits. The nation’s largest organization exclusively providing employee benefits and risk management solutions for employers of all sizes, OneDigital went to market as the new generation in health and benefits. Focused on creating harmony between people and technology, today OneDigital delivers market-leading benefits solutions including a sophisticated combination of strategic advisory services, analytics, compliance support, technology, and HR capital management tools.

OneDigital has offices throughout the country and serves 35,000 companies and manages nearly $4 billion in premiums. The company has been named to the Inc. 5000 List of America’s fastest-growing companies every year since the honor’s inception in 2007.
