As the workforce evolves, so do the expectations and needs of employees. According to a study by the National Society of High School Scholars, the next generation of workers, particularly Gen Z, is looking for more than just traditional benefits.

Employers looking to tap into the workforce’s youngest talent should focus on providing clear career pathways, offering student debt support, and staying true to their corporate values to meet Gen Z’s expectations for career advancement, financial assistance, and alignment with their personal beliefs.

In a recent discussion with WorldatWork, Julie Voges, HR consulting practice leader at OneDigital Florida and Georgia, shared her expert insights on what the near-future U.S. workforce desires from employers in terms of benefits.

Employers that are thoughtful about assisting with student debt and providing internships and scholarships to prospective employees will have an edge over their competitors who miss addressing this key concern.

Additionally, Gen Z wants to work for a company with a brand promise they believe in, making it critical for employers to think about more than just compensation and benefits. To truly win the hearts of the emerging generation, employers must look beyond just benefits and craft a compelling employee value proposition that promises meaning, autonomy, growth, impact, and connection. “Employees are looking for your brand and your promise. What will you do for them?” she explains.
