MassHealth Extends Open Enrollment Deadline

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Massachusetts Health Connector, the state’s marketplace for medical and dental insurance, has extended a special enrollment period through May 25, 2020.

Qualified Massachusetts uninsured residents are eligible to enroll. The updated enrollment deadlines are listed below:

Coverage Start Date Enrollment Deadline
May 1 April 23
June 1 May 23
July 1 May 25

This extension allows uninsured state residents to purchase individual plans up until May 25th. The regular open enrollment period for 2020 coverage ended on Jan 23, 2020. The extension period was originally authorized until April 25, 2020 but was recently extended to May 25, 2020. This new special open enrollment period comes in response to the COVID-19 public health emergency and provides residents, who missed the regular open enrollment period, a second chance to sign up for coverage. All state-regulated health plans in Massachusetts, which includes all plans that are sold through the Massachusetts Health Connector, are required to cover coronavirus testing, at no cost. Plans are also required to cover treatment without cost sharing in a doctor’s office, urgent care clinic, or Emergency Room, but not for inpatient hospital care.

Individuals can enroll in coverage online, or by calling the Health Connector Customer Service team at 877-623-6765.
