OneDigital’s Health & Wellbeing Leader Shares How Employers Can Take Action Against Prescription Drug Abuse

A recent study published by the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland claims the opioid epidemic is responsible for 44% of the national decrease in our men’s labor force between 2001 and 2015.

Since the 2017 declaration of a public health emergency from the U.S Department of Health and Human Services many HR professionals are still seeking ways to help their workers avoid and combat opioid addiction. In the recent HR Dive article, “Prescription Opioids May Have Caused Men to Drop out of the Workforce,” OneDigital’s National Practice Leader of Health & Wellbeing Shira Wilensky provides starting points for employers beginning with the benefits packages and policies they offer to employees.

Best case scenario, employers have updated their benefits and policies to limit coverage of opioids, expand coverage of alternative pain treatment and enhance payment for substance abuse and addiction programs.
