Raising Funds And Awareness For Cancer Research, One Beard At A Time

It's beard season! This past month, the men at OneDigital Hartford participated in "No-Shave November" in an effort to raise men’s cancer awareness. Each year, the goal of this national campaign is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, by letting it grow wild and free. For the entire month, a group of OneDigital Harford’s facial hair enthusiasts put down their razors and raised funds for the American Cancer Society.

To encourage participation, we held a contest of our own to determine the best beards in the following categories: best overall growth, worst growth, most creative, and closest resemblance to a bearded character. To participate, non-shavers had to donate a minimum $5 entry-fee, and also continue donating $5 each week that they went without shaving or trimming their whiskers.

On November 26th we cast a vote to determine the best and worst furry faces. Employees donated $1 per vote for their favorite shaggy look. The winners were announced and awarded the following:

Jeff Worley – Worst Growth

George Papagelis – Most Creative

Ron Theriault – Closest Resemblance to a Bearded Character

Steve Dillon – Best Growth

By the end of our participation, our collective hairy efforts raised $275, which we donated to the American Cancer Society. 100% of the funds we collected will go towards cancer research, prevention, education, and continuing care. Being a part of “No- Shave November” was an obvious choice for our organization because together, we were able to raise money to fight cancer and have fun doing it.
