A year has passed since President Donald Trump confirmed what experts asserted about the epidemic levels of opioid use in the United States.
Since the announcement of this public health emergency, many employers have begun to address the issue by engaging with their health plans and pharmacy benefit managers. Shira Wilensky, national practice leader of health & wellbeing at OneDigital, discusses the steps employers can take to fight this widespread drug problem. She explains the importance of empowering employees and being transparent about the efforts to support employees battling addiction or employees acting as caregivers to those with addiction, in the article, “The Opioid Epidemic at Work: 1 Year Later” with HR Dive.
Employees may not even know the full extent of their employers’ efforts in combating the crisis. This is about employers empowering their employees to be advocates for themselves and in their communities. It is a huge opportunity for employers to send a message that they care about their employees and the communities they serve. The more we can show some compassion and care about our employees, the more they want to care about their job.
