Shira Wilensky Talks with HR Dive About Steps Employers Can Take to Combat Opioid Crisis

According to the Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation (MTF) the Massachusetts economy is taking a significant financial hit as a result of the opioid epidemic.

Between incomes lost due to fatalities, extra healthcare expenses and absenteeism, it is estimated the opioid crisis has accumulated a bill of $9.7 billion. OneDigital’s National Practice Leader of Health & Wellbeing Shira Wilensky, explains steps employers can take to reduce the detrimental effects of the opioid crisis in the article “Study: Opioid Epidemic has Cost Massachusetts Economy $9.7B” featured in HR Dive. By implementing some restrictions on the accessibility of opioids through employer-sponsored plans, Shira explains, employers can begin to cut back on the epidemic.

One way employers are dealing with the crisis is by updating their benefits and policies to limit coverage of opioids, expand coverage of alternative pain treatment and increase payment for substance abuse and addiction programs.
