What to Expect From the 2020 Election

Not sure you have heard, but by most accounts, there is a relatively important election coming up on November 3.

Regardless of which side of the political fence you may live, I hear the following refrain - this is the most consequential election of our lifetime.

Like most things, the long lens of history will be the final arbitrator as to whether that summary is validated. Regardless, as a citizenry, we have a civic duty to remain informed and participate in our local, state and federal elections.

On the federal level, there is no shortage of hot topics that are competing to shape and hone the various narratives that will resonate with the electorate. Many of which will have a direct impact on employer groups. Though we still have four weeks to go, it is often said one week is an eternity in politics.

As of this writing, social justice, race relations, COVID-19, abortion rights, the economy, healthcare (ACA), Supreme Court, climate change, immigration foreign policy are among the many hot topics jockeying for position as motivating factors in driving voter turnout on Election day.

On October 21, I have the privilege of moderating a discussion on the upcoming Presidential election with a friend of OneDigital – Joel Wood, Senior Vice President of government affairs for the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers (CIAB). Joel has been involved in government affairs since 1993 and his unique perspective on the inner workings of Washington and the body politic should be both informative and enjoyable. Though we will naturally touch on primary topics of interest for employers (COVID19, healthcare and the economy), we will likely also discuss some of the broader hot buttons as well.

If your family is anything like mine, once every four years everyone becomes an expert pundit on forecasting outcomes.

I encourage you to join me for the session, “The Election, COVID-19 and Benefits,” on Wednesday, October 21, for an insider’s view on the upcoming election.

I will solicit Joel’s handicapping advice on both the outcome of the election and a variety of topics that will impact our country for years to come.
