Financial Planning partnered with Best Companies Group ("Best Companies"), a research firm, to accept applications from any RIA registered with the SEC — whether for-profit or nonprofit — that met three conditions: Each firm must have at least ten employees in the United States, must have a facility within the country and must have been in business for at least one year. Each applicant was rated on leadership, culture, pay and benefits, training, work environment, engagement, communications and other factors. Additionally, Financial Planning.com and Best Companies evaluated each firm's workplace policies, practices, benefit programs, philosophy, systems and demographics. Financial Planning.com and Best Companies combined their measurements from the survey and evaluation to calculate an overall score for each firm. The list does not evaluate the quality of services furnished to clients.  OneDigital employees were surveyed by Best Companies Group from January 8-19, 2024. OneDigital did not pay a fee to be included in this ranking, but did pay a fee to administer the survey to employees.

Financial Planning partnered with Best Companies Group, a research firm, to conduct a two-part survey process of employers and their employees. The combined scores determined the top companies. The list does not evaluate the quality of services furnished to clients.  OneDigital does pay a fee for the administration of the employee survey.
