Joseph Birkofer

As principal and senior vice president for OneDigital in Houston, Joseph R. Birkofer brings decades of expertise in financial planning and asset allocation. He and his team offer a variety of financial services, including retirement plan consulting, financial planning, wealth management and other solutions for both employers and individuals. 

His passion over the past 30 years has been advising business owners and their employees on how to get on the right track for retirement. His experience as a business owner provides him with unique insight into the demands of running a successful enterprise. 

Before joining OneDigital, Joe was the principal and founder of Legacy Asset Management in Houston. Legacy's assets were acquired by OneDigital in 2024. He also served as a trust officer with Texas Commerce Bank.

As an instructor at Rice University, he is constantly sharpening his skills to teach a new generation of financial planners. Joe teaches Employee Benefits and Retirement Planning at Rice University’s School of Continuing Education Certified Financial Planner™ program. He is also an active member of the community, serving on boards including The Periwinkle Foundation and the Advisory Board of Incarnate Word Academy.

Joe earned his B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and his M.B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin. He has provided commentary for national and local outlets such as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Money Magazine, Investment News, Financial Planner, the Houston Chronicle, and the Houston Business Journal, as well as on radio and television shows.
