OneDigital Retirement + Wealth leader Renee Scherzer Gives Thoughtful Reflection on Past Year as NAPA President

This past week, many of OneDigital Retirement + Wealth Advisers attended the National Association of Plan Advisers (NAPA) 401(k) Summit.

The 2024 industry conference kicked off with a wonderful address by former NAPA President and OneDigital Retirement + Wealth SVP and adviser, Renee Scherzer. Renee held the prestigious position during 2023, taking over from past president and OneDigital Retirement + Wealth SVP Corby Dall. OneDigital has had three past presidents of the NAPA organization, starting with Jania Stout in 2019-2020, Corby Dall in 2022-2023, and concluding with Renee Scherzer in 2023-2024. During the leadership transition to the current president that took place at the NAPA 401(k) Summit, Renee described some of the ups and downs of the past year:

It's been an exciting year. When I began last April in San Diego, I had a lot of energy and curiosity, which was about all I wanted to accomplish. There were so many things I wanted to do, and I thought I had more than 24 hours in a day. But anyone who knows me and how I prepare for things, I became a student of the American Retirement Association and the fundamental mission of educating those working in the retirement plan industry and advocating for expanding retirement plan access.

One of Renee’s major initiatives as president was to make progress towards a more equitable environment for all in the retirement space and forward the conversation of DEI&B. She went on to address the struggles and shortcomings that there needs to be change in the coming years.

As a mother of three, two of whom are teenage girls, I have always worked hard to lead by example …I was surprised in talking to some truly spectacular women who shared that no matter what level of success or position they attained, they still faced the subtle comments, unseen barriers, and unique challenges. It’s just not acceptable. I want to encourage the women here today to build your community, build your tribe, get involved in the ARA Thrive Mentorship program as a mentor or a mentee, and attend the Women in Retirement conference.

OneDigital Retirement + Wealth President Vince Morris shares a few words to honor Renee’s tenure and her ability to affect the change we believe is necessary for the industry to grow.

We are so thankful to have a leader like Renee at our organization. She leads with authenticity, strength, knowledge, and, most importantly, heart. She truly personifies who we are at OneDigital. By being thoughtfully human and bringing our true selves to work each day, we can create and foster a place we can all be proud to represent. Renee is a fantastic example. Her time as NAPA president may have come to a close, but her time impacting the world of retirement is just starting. Thank you, Renee, for everything you have done for our industry and who you are as a person!
